seo-services-digital-marketing-career-for-it-graduates

Are you currently completing your education or a recent graduate? If you attended (or are attending) IT school, you’re not limited to working in financial institutions, cybersecurity firms, or tech companies. You may want to consider a career in SEO services or digital marketing. Both of these fields are bountiful with opportunities. And many of the jobs allow you to work from home and make money on your time, and create a schedule that works for you. If you’re intrigued, read on and see why this path could be suitable for you.

High Demand for Skilled Professionals

For a company to make money, it has to get its name out there and focus its efforts on its target audience. If not, the business can’t succeed, as it won’t gain the exposure it needs to thrive, whether it’s not doing enough, or it’s focused on too broad an audience or the wrong one.

With so many businesses out there and new ones popping up each year, there will always be room for marketing professionals. And the internet isn’t going anywhere. While algorithms may change, apps may increase, and new social media platforms and tactics will arise, it’s pretty much a guarantee that digital marketing is going to remain relevant.

When it comes to SEO, written content online will always be useful for readers. Algorithms will evolve, formats will change, and what’s trending will shift. However, SEO will always be necessary for any content generated.

To put this into perspective: at one point, cramming keywords in every section, heading, and meta description was necessary. If not, the piece would never get seen. The algorithms have changed, and this practice now dings the content, and it’s ranked lower.

A curveball was thrown whenever AI entered the scene. It was then being used to screen content to include at the top of search results, where most people are looking. This process is called generative engine optimization (GEO). With a tech background, you already have a portion of the knowledge to succeed in this area. And if you remain inquisitive and willing to learn, you can continue to grow.

Earn a Lucrative Wage

Many companies are willing to pay a pretty penny to people who can successfully get them more business. Besides good pay, they often provide incentives such as bonuses.

Let’s say you eventually work your way up in a company as a marketing manager. The median wage for this career is $159,660 per year or $76.76 per hour, as noted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). And keep in mind that you typically only need a bachelor’s degree to enter the field.

Maybe that type of pressure and demanding career isn’t for you. If being an SEO specialist is more up your alley, especially because there’s more of a chance of working from home,  Glassdoor states that the average salary for this career is over $85,000 per year.

Have a Number of Opportunities

You can absolutely find careers outside of IT school in SEO or digital marketing. You can work on-site and have the structure you need to achieve when you work directly for the company. However, in some cases, they may extent you a remote or hybrid position that allows you to stay in your own home (at least some of the time),

And you don’t necessarily need to work directly for a company taking on a full-time role, either. Careers in SEO and marketing also open opportunities in the freelance realm. You can pick your clients, pay, and even when you work. It’s an excellent way to have a work-life balance since you can travel, be there for your children, or just enjoy life on your terms. That said, sometimes, you may end up working more than you want.

Obtain a Job That Lets You Be Creative

Not all jobs in IT let you explore your creative side. Sometimes, you’re mainly focused on coding or troubleshooting, which has its own benefits. But these areas definitely aren’t creative.

With marketing, you get to merge the technical skills you learn with letting your imagination run wild to think of the perfect words and designs for a company to get the business noticed. This is anything but boring, and you’re always doing something different.

Besides creativity, you also get to utilize your problem-solving skills. The issue is that you have a business that’s aiming to exude a particular image. And you need to capture that image, though the possibilities are endless.

Be Part of a Constantly Evolving Field

Digital marketing and SEO services are fields that don’t stay the same. While certain career paths barely change, and you know what to expect from one to the next. These areas are different. What works today isn’t what’ll work five years from now — or even one year from now.

What that means for you is you’ll always be learning and growing. You must adapt the industry to keep up and to ensure you’re doing the best for your clients.

Be the Reason a Business Grows and Thrives

Companies look for skilled individuals in SEO and marketing who can help them grow and thrive. Sometimes, these people are the ones who are laying the very foundation for their company and then are helping the business owner to build from the ground up.

In SEO or digital marketing, you can make a difference in the business owners’ lives. You’ll also get to feel good about yourself and watch a business gain customers and all because of your content or campaign.

If you haven’t picked a degree, know you’re not limited to an IT degree if you want to work with computers in some way, shape, or form. For example, you could go to school for graphic design or visual communications. On the other hand, if you are already partially or completely through your IT degree, know you have options in social media and digital marketing.
